Hommage an JJ Cale - "The Breeze" (Clapton & Friends)

Also was ich nicht verstehe ist diese "früher war alles besser Attitüde"! Die Tube vergisst ja nix. Erst gestern Abend habe ich dort mal in eine Version von Double Trouble aus dem Anfang der 80er reingehört und die dann mit der Version Madison Square Garden with Steve Winwood verglichen. Jedem das Seine – aber nach meiner Auffassung ist die aktuellere auch die wesentlich bessere. Es ist ja in meinen Augen - äh Ohren – kein Vorteil, wenn es 5 Soli in einem Stück anstatt "nur" 2 gibt und der Solistenpart jeweils 6 statt 2 Minuten lang ist. Zudem spielte Clapton zuletzt präziser weil nüchterner.

Länge ist also kein Qualitätsmerkmal an sich, wie ich finde. Clapton sagte ja mal, dass er von Cale gelernt hätte, die Soli sollten kompakt gesetzt sein. Also wenn Eric das dem JJ zu verdanken hat, dann liebe ich den Kerl alleine dafür umso mehr. So Zeug wie die freien Improvisationen bei Cream mit Stücken von 20 Minuten Länge und davon 10 Minuten Gitarrensoli kann und will zumindest ich nicht mehr hören.

völlig Deiner Meinung! Das Album ist klasse und läuft rauf und runter. Das "Haar...." findet man immer, wenn man es denn finden will! Doch das war schon immer so, wahrscheinlich hatten auch einige Kritiker und Fans an "Wheels Of Fire" anno 1968 etwas auszusetzen. Seis drum, welcher Top-Musiker der 60er bringt heute schon noch so ein klasse-Album raus, das auch noch erfolgreich ist. In den Charts geht's allerdings runter : in den USA nur noch Platz 7, Tom Petty allerdings auch nur 6. , von 1 runter. Dafür on top ein ST "Guardians Of The Galaxy" und dahinter die Rapper Godsmack, na gut, ist halt 2014.....In Deutschland immerhin noch Platz 3 und in GB runter auf 9. Auf der Insel immer noch Ed Sheeron vor Dolly Parton. Ist aber normal: Wenn die guten alten Stones ein Album rausbringen, ist es immer auf nummer 1-3, und eine Woche später im Nirvana. Sind halt die alten Fans die sofort zuschlagen, doch danach passiert nicht mehr viel. "Unsere" Zeiten sind nun mal einige Jahre her, und was hat ein heute 20, oder 30-jähriger mit Eric Clapton, den Stones oder Rod Stewart zu tun? Good Times, doch schön sie miterlebt zu haben.....

Man darf halt nicht alle über einen Kamm scheren. In meinem Freundeskreis gibt es auch noch einige die Clapton, SRV, Cray, usw rauf und runter hören.

Bzgl der Filetierung des Albums bin ich allerdings eurer Meinung! Das muss echt nicht sein.

Ist doch toll, dass es auch 26jährige wie Dich gibt die Clapton, Cray usw. hören. Aber Du zählst halt zu den Ausnahmen, ich würde nie alle über einen Kamm scheren. Doch insgesamt ist es doch eine Minderheit, aber sehr schön das es sie noch gibt. Bezüglich der Charts spielt sie aber eine eindeutig untergeordnete Rolle, ist allerdings auch normal. Jede Generation hat nun einmal "ihre" Musik, über die Klasse ließe sich allerdings ordentlich streiten.
Alles Gute und weiter viel Spass mit der Musik der "alten Männer"! Ich kenne auch einige 20-jährige die Jethro Tull oder John Abercrombie lieben, das macht Hoffnung.

Die Charts sind doch heutzutage ein Witz! Und ein Qualitätsmerkmal waren sie noch nie. Auch wenn ab und an mal Klassiker vorne waren - was Andere kaufen hat mich noch nie interessiert!

Goldsmack sollte man allerdings gehört haben

Regarding any questions about Eric Clapton's motivation for making his tribute to JJ Cale, we can't think of a more sincere, personal and heartfelt tribute from any artist to another. For many years, Cale himself stated “Thank God for Eric Clapton”. There couldn't be a more appropriate person to have been the driving force behind this project, no one better suited to bring in so many of the right peers to collaborate on this, and no one better qualified to make this project the success it has already been. It should also be noted that organizing this project on every level over the past year has been a huge task, handled at all times with class and the utmost respect. And knowing of other aspects of this project, we can assure you that Eric has been and is being very generous to all involved. As for the attention being paid to "The Breeze" on this page, the project is by far the most high profile current news related to JJ Cale so we feel its only natural to share all this information about the project's success. We will focus on other news, music and memories in the future but right now this tribute is making a great worldwide impact which every day is educating more people about JJ Cale’s music and we couldn’t be more grateful.

As for informing about the availability of JJ Cale merchandise, we know that people always want to share their enthusiasm for what they love - be that a city, a sports team or a musician and we have tried to accommodate by helping provide items that are of excellent quality and priced reasonably. That said, it doesn’t seem appropriate for institutions like the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame not to include Cale among the state’s greatest musical ambassadors. Cale no longer being with us means that his personal concern about avoiding the spotlight is no longer a factor. In the meantime, this event should be a most appropriate recognition of his contributions and will be a final opportunity for him to be formally honored in his hometown by his friends. This is all really about supporting and sharing an appreciation for JJ Cale - the man and his music. We Thank You for your support and especially for sharing your personal experiences and reactions. Bzgl der Filetierung des Albums bin ich allerdings eurer Meinung! Das muss echt nicht sein.

An dem Album gibt es wenig zu filetieren - es ist relativ stark komprimiert, bietet in seinen Interpretationen sehr wenig Spielraum für neue Facetten der Songs von JJ Cale und ist somit, rein musikalisch gesehen, ziemlich überflüssig. Wenn allerdings dadurch ein paar Leute tatsächlich an die originale Musik von Cale herangeführt werden - umso besser
