The Blues Foundation announces the selection of three living performers to be inducted into its Blues Hall of Fame. The three are Tommy Brown, Eric Clapton and Little Richard. They join more than 130 performers who have been inducted each year beginning in 1980.

Eric Clapton has been tapped for induction into the Blues Hall of Fame for his many musical achievements as well as for his role as a popularizer of the entire genre. He brought the blues to audiences in his native Britain and throughout the world, illuminating the work of the original blues artists who inspired him.”
Their induction will be held in conjunction with the three days of events May 6-8 surrounding the 36th Blues Music Awards on May 7 and the public Grand Opening of the bricks and mortar Blues Hall of Fame on May 8 in Memphis, Tennessee. With living musicians like B.B. King and Buddy Guy, and legends like Muddy Waters and Koko Taylor, the Blues Hall of Fame consists of blues music’s best and brightest stars.

So far as can be determined, the Grateful Dead and Cream only shared a concert stage once, on March 11, 1968, in Sacramento. Now, 47 years later, the legendary guitar stars from both bands are being singled out for new accolades.
Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, who died in 1995, and Cream co-founder Eric Clapton, who is alive and well (and scheduled to perform six concerts in May in London with San Diego-bred bassist Nathan East), were each named Wednesday for new honors.
Garcia and longtime Dead lyricist Robert Hunter will be jointly inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 18 at a ceremony in New York City. The other inductees into the 46-year-old Hall of Fame include blues giant Willie Dixon (whose songs were covered by both the Dead and Cream), along with Toby Keith, former San Diegan Linda Perry, Cyndi Lauper and Bobby Braddock, who wrote such country-music hits as Tammy Wynette's "D.I.V.O.R.C.E." and Keith's "Let's Talk About Me." Perry's songwriting credits include Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and Alicia Keys' "Superwoman" and Celine Dion's "My Love."
Clapton, meanwhile, has been named as a 2015 Blues Hall of Fame inductee. He'll be honored May 7 in Memphis at the 36th Blues Music Awards. This year's two other living inductees are rock 'n' roll pioneer Little Richard and singer Tommy Brown, who rose to prominence in the 1950s as the front man in the Griffin Brothers Orchestra, which scored a chart-topping hit with "Weepin & Cryin'." Brown and Richard started their careers almost concurrently and both influenced the young James Brown. This year's Blues Hall of Fame inductions coincide with the grand opening of the long-awaited Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis.
Perhaps coincidentally, the June 18 induction of Garcia and Hunter comes just two weeks before the Dead's surviving key members perform three sold-out farewell shows, July 3-5, at Chicago's Soldier Field. That is the same stadium where Garcia performed his final concert with the Dead in the summer of 1995.
